The work of Indonesian artist Raden Saleh is a curious journey between 19th Century Romanticism and Javanese landscape. Trained in the Netherlands his paintings reflect the European 19th century aesthetic of its time, meanwhile his glorious pink and orange hued backgrounds have a unique Javanese twist with volcanoes peaking along the skyline.
